Colombian conductor Andrés Lopera will be the Richmond Symphony Orchestra's (RSO) fourth Music Director. Lopera's appointment comes after an extensive two-year search, resulting in a field of 53 candidates.

Indiana’s “Richmond Symphony Orchestra has named Maestro Andrés Lopera as its new music director,” states an unsigned report on Thursday’s (3/30) Oxford Observer (OH). “Lopera has entered into a three-year contract with RSO.

To conclude a concert season that was atypical to say the least, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra offered scores of Mozart and Beethoven with Stravinsky’s neoclassical homage to his predecessors as a charming centerpiece.

As the new assistant conductor of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Andrés Lopera often finds himself with a full plate. The 35-year-old native of Colombia joined the orchestra in September, replacing longtime associate conductor Peter Stafford Wilson.
